A qualified guide will be hugely important during your photo safari to Africa. Not only will your guide provide you with the safety and security of having someone who knows the country and the culture, but he or she will also provide you with a source of knowledge that can help to bring your safari adventure to life.

Safety

As beautiful and incredible as many of Africa’s creatures are, you must remember that they are also potentially dangerous. Elephants may look peaceful and graceful whilst walking across the plains in a herd, but if they feel threatened in any way then they can soon become dangerous. If you are in a vehicle then the threat will be minimal, but it is still important to have a guide who knows when to keep a sensible distance and when to steer well clear.

It becomes even more important to have a guide during a walking safari. Most guides will in fact carry a rifle on such a safari, usually as a deterrent but also for protection if needed, and they will know what to do should a situation become dangerous. Guides don’t just drive you around like a normal tour guide – they are experts in animal behaviour and they know how to act around the animals you will encounter.

Knowledge and Education

Your guide is more than just a person to take you from A to B. When you go on a photo safari, your guide will know the area like the back of their hand. They will be able to tell you all about the plant and animal life that you encounter, the history of the area and the local people. This will provide you with far greater insight into the country you are travelling in, and will provide you with so much more during your photographic safari.

Best Animal Spots

You may think that it doesn’t take much skill to spot an elephant when it is coming straight towards you. But there are plenty of occasions when your guide will be able to spot lions, leopards and other well-hidden animals well before you get the chance. They are trained to pick out the animals from great distances, and you simply won’t believe how sharp their eyesight can be. A safari wouldn’t be much fun if you didn’t see any animals, so a guide will prove crucial here.

Photography

When you go on a photo safari, your guide will be more than just an expert in the animals and the local area – they will also be a professional photographer with extensive experience of shooting landscapes and wildlife in Africa. They will be able to provide techniques to get the best shots, as well as taking you to the best spots for photos and providing you with expert advice to help you get the best results from your trip. They will constantly be thinking about opportunities for getting the best photo, just like you, so you can be sure that you are on the same wavelength.

Africa has a lot to offer for both amateur and professional photographers alike. Sometimes it seems like you can just turn up and take quality pictures wherever you are, such is the spectacular scenery and wildlife on offer. But if you really want to capture truly professional-quality photos to take home with you, your best option is to go on a photographic safari.

The differences between a normal safari and a photo safari are numerous. To start with, the group is accompanied by a professional photographer who is an expert in the area. This means you will get access to the best places where you’ll be able to take the most impressive wildlife shots, and the professional photographer will be able to provide advice on taking photos in specific locations and light conditions. Because the whole tour is catered especially for taking great pictures, you won’t have to miss any opportunities and you’ll be able to stay in one spot until you get the right shot.

One of the best locations for a photographic safari is Tanzania. This is because it offers some of the best scenery and game viewing that Africa has to offer. Here you’ll be able to get up close and personal with the biggest and most impressive animals on the planet, and you’ll also be able to capture spectacular images of Mount Kilimanjaro and Ngorongoro Crater.

All the animals that you could hope to see can be found in Tanzania, and certainly all of the ‘Big Five’. Elephants, lions and cheetahs are a certainty, some of which will come right up to the vehicle. And if you’re lucky you might be able to spot a leopard, the most elusive of the big cats. All this will mean you’re sure to take some photos home to be proud of.

The benefit of a photographic safari is that it is a highly personal experience. You get one-on-one tuition and an insider knowledge of the country and its features. Also, it doesn’t matter on your level of experience as all levels are normally catered for. You’ll miss out on all the frustrations that come with a normal safari, meaning you’ll get a window seat for the best views, and you can also head out at particular times of the day such as dawn and dusk to take advantage of the best light conditions. You have the freedom to plan your trip to guarantee that you’ll have some amazing shots at the end of the experience.

A photo safari not only allows you to enjoy all the benefits of a normal safari, but you will also get to take home some fantastic photos at the end of it, avoiding any disappointment upon your return. These will not only be something to be proud of, but will preserve the memories of your time away, and will lead to an even better experience of Tanzania and the wonders that it has on offer.
